FOKUS Award 2018

“The approach to light is one of the main differences between good photography and ordinary photography. This is where every photographer's battle to "subdue" light in their favour begins. No other element in a photograph belongs to the photographer except light..” – this is the approach behind an event this year that is already a beautiful and unique tradition in Albanian photography.

"Duel with Light" is thus this year's theme for the now well-known competition, embraced by the whole Albanian art scene, a competition that this year marks its 9th edition. For those who haven't been part of past events, "FOKUS" is both a competition and an annual international artistic photography exhibition in Albania, organised in the city of Fier.

Everyone has the right to participate, with no age limit, and one may compete with 1 to 3 photographs. The photographs' resolution must be high, at least 300dpi for the 50x70cm format. Photographs must be sent by email accompanied by additional information such as: the author's full name, the photograph's title, full address, and phone number. Participating photographs must not have been exhibited before. They will be selected and evaluated by the artistic board, and if a winner is selected, they are admitted to the exhibition and competition with 1 photograph. The photographs nominated in the "FOKUS 2018" competition will be exhibited on 12 October, at the Art Gallery in Fier, Albania.

"FOKUS 2018" rewards the competition's 3 most successful photographs.

Main prize $1000

The other two prizes will receive non-monetary gifts.

The printing, matting and catalogue of "FOKUS 2018" will be handled by the organisers.
Participating photographs retain full authorial rights. Exhibition photographs are not sent back to the authors. The organisers reserve the right to use the photographs to promote FOKUS activities.
