Fraktura — as a site-specific artistic intervention and public gathering — was born as an alternative movement with the aim of giving the public an active part to play, and in fact the key to Fraktura lies precisely in this active engagement of the public and in its invitation to broad interest groups around the legacy of the project, which is closely tied to the very fate of the once-infamous former Spaç prison.

All together, we launched a challenge with the Fraktura project by inviting even informal groups into concrete parallel projects that, in different ways, treat Collective Memory and the Space of Spaç as material for building alternative narratives about what has been done with these matters up to this moment. From the ruins of Spaç there should emerge an awareness of the Cruelty of the dictatorship — this without doubt, but even more must be done: Spaç is an emblem of that cruelty, and as such today's society has a duty to engage with the future of this site, aiming for its museification. Fraktura sets out to do exactly this.

The event on 27 May 2023 thus comes as part of the realisation of the Fraktura documentary and the exhibition catalogue, but it also seeks to achieve something more that it already carries within its intention: to engage cells of the community formed around the artistic intervention at Spaç and to motivate them to continue on this journey. Some of them may even have the opportunity to be shown and discussed right there at Spaç. For this, we invite you to this open public discussion among us.
