The National Historical Museum of Tirana, located in Skanderbeg Square, is Albania’s largest and most important museum. Opened in 1981, it offers a comprehensive overview of Albanian history, from prehistoric settlements and antiquity to the Middle Ages, the National Renaissance, the communist period, and contemporary times. Its most recognizable feature is the large mosaic “The Albanians” on the front, symbolizing key moments of the nation’s past.
