#exhibition open from Jan 21 to Feb 3, 2021
Oppening Ceremony: 21 Jan at 5pm

75 million people died in World War II, including about 20 million military personnel and 40 million civilians, many of whom died because of deliberate genocide, massacres, mass-bombings, disease, and starvation. The Nazis, as part of a deliberate program of extermination, systematically killed over 11 million people including 6 million Jews. Between 33-45 the nazis and its allies established more than 44000 camps and other incarceration sites (including ghettos).

From 197 000 people entered in Mauthausen Camp between 1938-1945. At least 95,000 people died there. More than 512 Albanians were interned to concentration camps. They were sent to Zemun, Banjica and then to other Camps in Austria and Germany. 427 Albanians died in all the Mauthausen camps, only 24 survived when Allies liberated the Camp in 5 May 1945. One of them migrate to The US, while 23 others returned alive to Albania. To another hell.

From the curator of the exhibition, Elton Koritari: – “For memory to make sense, it’s important for the people to understand what has happened from a historical point of view. Furthermore, we must show that there is a civil, peaceful, democratic and unbreakable barrier of society, of individuals and of course of institutions who can not forget and at the same time can no longer tolerate the conditions for the repetition of history.

Primo Levi said: – “It happened, it can happen again, this is the essence, the point”. We must say forcefully that whenever even a single person is discriminated against or persecuted because of identity, skin color, origin, social class, religion, sexual orientation or origin; history repeats itself again.

It should never happen again!”
